WHAT I ACCOMPLISHED:
This week I placed the order for my Emperor’s Children army. That means that I am officially on the hook to do this. There is no turning back now.
The complete list of what I ordered is shown below.
3 x Lord Exultant
3 x 5 Infractors
3 x 5 Tormentors
3 x 6 Noise Marines
3 x Lord Kakophonist
3 x Daemon Princes
3 x Chaos Rhinos
Lucius the Eternal
Fulcrum
3 x 6 Flawless Blades
HOW I ACCOMPLISHED IT:
In order to determine what to purchase, I looked at the various Emperor’s Children lists that I have enjoyed playing the most since they came out. I then picked the units that showed up most consistently in these detachments, which is admittedly easy due to the limited Emperor’s Children model range.
The specific detachments came down to Peerless Bladesmen, the Mercurial Host, and Coterie of the Conceited. The current lists (as of the September 2025 Balanced Dataslate and Munitorum Field Manual Points Update) are all listed below for those who are interested. I also very enjoy playing Carnival of Excess but just printed and painted some custom Slaanash Daemons that I prefer the aesthetics of way more than the official GW models. I also will not be playing Carnival of Excess in may league games, so don’t need to worry about having them all as official models.
Once I had my list settled, I traveled to my Local Game Store (LGS) of choice, which is the Lamp and Dragon in central Massachusetts, to talk with the owner about the most economical way to procure all of the desired models. I prefer working through the LGS whenever possible for a variety of reasons such as supporting local businesses, supporting the shop that hosts my league, and the relationship that I have developed with the owner. After working with the owner, we settled on the below owner as the best way to procure what I was looking for. We then placed the order, which I am looking forward to picking up soon.
2 x Emperor’s Children Combat Patrol
2 x Noise Marines
3 x Lord Kakophonist
1 x Lord Exultant
Lucius
1 x Infractors / Tormentors
3 x Daemon Princes
Emperor’s Children Battleforce – Blissbound Warband
In the near future, I look forward to, sarcasm cuz none of these are my favorite parts of the hobby, assembling and painting close to 80 models to be ready for the next iteration of my league in March 2026. Stay tuned to read about my frustrations with trying to assemble and paint that many models with gorilla hands!
LESSONS LEARNED / BEST PRACTICES:
A best practice that I would already recommend is to play some time playing with the codex before you rush out to buy the models. This gives you a feeling for which models you enjoy playing, which is a good data point in addition to which models you like aesthetically. In my case, I have the advantage of having played with proxies and 3D printed models, but you can also utilize Tabletop Simulator to accomplish this.
